-
Erika Burgess, MD
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Undergraduate: Emory University
Medical School: McGill University
I entered medical school suspecting I wanted to pursue a career in community emergency medicine and Trident Medical Center offers the friendliest, most hands-on training for such a career in a beautiful, fun city. Outside of my day job as a resident, I'm a powerlifter, a crazy cat lady, a self-proclaimed foodie, and a fantasy football champion.

Hometown: Oklahoma City
Undergraduate: University of Oklahoma
Medical School: Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Trident offers great autonomy from the start, excellent attendings who want you to be the best doctor you can be, and a city that you can’t help but love. I enjoy sports, particularly the OKC Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners, and spending time with my wife. We love going downtown to try new places to eat.
-
Gabriela Delgado, MD
Hometown: Isabela, PR
Undergraduate: Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico
Medical School: University of Medicine and Health Sciences
I chose Trident because of the supportive enviroment created by the attendings, nursing staff and program leadership. I know that training at Trident will expose me to a wide variety of cases that will prepare me for real-life practice as an attending. In my free time, I enjoy reading, walking my dog, and visiting local farmers markets. What I love most about Charleston is that there is always something for everyone to enjoy.
-
Justin Gallagher, MD
Hometown: Pensacola, FL
Undergraduate: Florida State University
Medical School: Florida State University
After finishing my career in the Navy, I chose HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital because of the autonomy provided to the residents. Only a handful of resident specialties means YOU need to care for anything and everything that comes through the doors. Outside of residency, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife and daughter and engaging with our local church.
-
Bo Hatcher, MD
Hometown: Columbus, GA
Undergraduate: University of Georgia
Medical School: Mercer University School of Medicine
After completing a year of general surgery here at Trident I choose to transition to the Emergency Medicine program. The decision to stay at Trident was easy, because of the people. The attendings, residents, nursing staff are all extremely kind, patient, and willing to help and teach at any moment.
-
Haley Howard, DO
Hometown: Oklahoma City
Undergraduate: University of Tulsa
Medical School: Oklahoma Sta University College of Osteopathic Medicine
I chose this program for the autonomy that community hospital training provides, the unique flight medicine elective opportunity, and because it was the only interview that felt like a conversation between friends rather than a formal interview. Outside of medicine, I enjoy rock climbing, trying new restaurants with my friends, axe throwing, baking, and dance parties.
-
Carlos Julian, MD
Hometown: Orlando, FL
Undergraduate: University of Central Florida
Medical School: St. George’s University
During my sub-internship at Trident Medical Center, I was impressed by the strong attending-resident dynamic that created an exceptional learning environment. The high acuity of cases further reinforced my confidence in the training offered. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring Charleston’s food scene, hitting the gym, and playing video games with friends back home.
-
Amanda Nieves, MD
Hometown: Wake Forest, NC
Undergraduate: Winston-Salem University
Medical School: Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University
It was the interview that really sold it for me. I remember sitting back, smiling and feeling motivated, even though I wasn't even accepted to the program at that point. I resonated with their passion, their desire to create a program to meet the needs of both the residents and the community. Trident Medical Center wants residents who will take ownership of their education and this program and leave it better than they found it. While residency is hard with many transition points to navigate through, this program is not a place to just "survive."
Coming from a program where we weren't a good match for each other, this residency is a breath of fresh air, and I find more reasons to be grateful I matched here.
-
Kyle Pressler, DO
Hometown: Springfield, OH
Undergraduate: Wright State University
Medical School: Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
I was drawn to Trident Medical Center because it offers the high-acuity, hands-on experience of a busy community hospital while maintaining the educational rigor of an academic program. I was especially impressed by the program's leadership as each brings a unique background that contributes to a rich and well-rounded educational experience. Moving to Charleston from Ohio has been a refreshing change of scenery, and there’s always a new restaurant to try or an event happening around town.

I chose Trident for its hands-on experience and the supportive, close knit culture among faculty and residents. It’s a fun and high yield place to train with exposure to a wide range of acuity and patient populations. Outside the hospital, I stay active with hiking, the gym, trying new restaurants, and hitting up the beach. Charleston has something for everyone with great food, a beautiful coastline, and a vibrant downtown that keeps life exciting.

Bradley R. Teasley, DO
Hometown: Greenville, SC

My wife and I met doing EMS in Charleston, and Trident's strong focus on prehospital and flight medicine, experienced faculty in areas such as trauma and toxicology, and their supportive culture drew me to the program. In my free time, I love to spend the day on Folly Beach with my wife and family enjoying the beach and Charleston's amazing food!
